» INTRODUCTION

The MESC-5 Symposium is the fifth in a series of conferences in the Middle East on the research, development and application of Advanced Composite Material (ACM) in the construction industry. The previous conferences were successfully held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Aswan, and Alexandria Egypt in 1996, 1999 2002 and 2005 respectively. This symposium will be held in the Hotel Intercontinental Hurghada Resort from 23-25th May 2008.

 

Despite that utilization of FRP in the civil engineering industry only started about 20 years ago, FRP is applied nowadays on a daily basis.  FRP Elements are applied in form of sheets, strips,  bars and tendons  as reinforcing and strengthening elements in concrete, masonry and wood structures. Nowadays, several forms and innovations of FRP-sections has a wide field of applications in different kind of structures, e.g. buildings, bridges, etc. As structural engineering becomes increasingly dependant on information technology for design, evaluation and construction of our buildings and bridges, MESC-5 is an appropriate event to meet and discuss the most up-to-date technology, the current applications and the potential uses of the advanced composite materials (ACM).

The symposium will be conducted in English. No simultaneous translation will be available.  All published materials will be in English.

 

» WHO SHOULD ATTEND
 

The symposium is intended for civil and structural engineers, architects and associated professionals concerned with the state-of-the-art design, construction, monitoring, and performance of structures utilizing ACM, e.g. bridges and buildings. Participants will therefore represent consultants, researchers, owners, contractors, suppliers and regulatory authorities.
